Grand Canyon Powerhouse
If you are planning a trip to the Grand Canyon, one location you may want to visit is the Grand Canyon Powerhouse. This building is located in the South Rim area of the canyon which is the Arizona side and the most popular for tourists. The building was declared a National Historic Landmark in the year 1987. One of the reasons this building is so notable is because of its age and architecture. The house was built in 1926 to look like a chalet rather than an energy processing facility.
The building uses a technique called trompe l'oeil, an artistic illusion to fool the eye. The building looks smaller than it actually is. This building still contains the original diesel equipment that was once used to power the South Rim area. Today, the powerhouse still stands although in fair condition. If you are interested in architecture and design, you may want to make a stop at this building. The Grand Canyon is one of the most beloved landmarks in the world, and welcomes five million tourists every year.
When you visit the Grand Canyon and its former powerhouse, you will get to see this massive gorge. From the mile long depth to the stunning multicolored rock walls, the canyon is a sight to see. There are so many ways to enjoy this area. You can hike to the bottom of the canyon or go there on a mule. You can take a helicopter ride or bus tour. Some people like seeing the canyon from the Rim, which is certainly a breathtaking view. When you visit the Grand Canyon, take lots of pictures as the view is something you will want to remember. Although no photo compares to the real thing, you will certainly want lots of shots to show your friends.

You Can See the Hiking Trails in the Distance if you Look Closely
The Grand Canyon Powerhouse is only one attraction to enjoy in the Grand Canyon National Park. There are all kinds of guided tours, museums, gift shops, dining establishments and more. Because the Grand Canyon is such a popular destination, it is important to plan your trip months in advance. For the best chance at getting the accommodations you want, at least six months reservation time is recommended. There are many great places to stay in the Grand Canyon area, many of which are historic landmarks.
