Grand Canyon Rafting Trips
If you're looking for a great way to experience the majesty of the Grand Canyon, consider Grand Canyon rafting trips. Sure, the canyon is breathtaking from the rim, but nothing compares to the view you'll get from the inside. There are lots of rafting excursions for tourists to the area. You can find trips that are as short as three days or as long as seven days. These trips include lots of hiking, camping and living in nature. You get to see the amazing beauty of the Grand Canyon from its innermost depths.
The Grand Canyon is a gorge in Arizona that is millions of years old. Carved over the years primarily by the Colorado river, this canyon spans a mile in depth, more than 200 miles in length and 18 miles in width at the widest point. There are plenty of ways to see the Grand Canyon including by bus, on foot, by helicopter and of course by boat. The advantages of seeing the canyon this way are many. You get to explore the depths of the canyon just as the first explorers did. There is nothing as exhilarating as traveling down the Colorado River on a raft the way Major John Wesley Powell did in 1869. You get to see the layers of rock which he called leaves in a storybook.
Most people begin their rafting journey at Lee's Ferry. Lee's Ferry is the entry to the Grand Canyon National Park and is a popular fishing spot and launch spot for rafting expeditions. Another thing you will find at this location are historic buildings that date back to the late 1800s and an abandoned steamboat from 1913. When you take the Lee's Ferry route on your rafting trip you make your way towards older areas of the canyon as you go. There are quite a few rafting tours that use motorized rafts made for transporting large groups down the river. The longest trips span the entire length of the canyon from Lee's Ferry to Lake Mead.
If you think Grand Canyon rafting trips sound like fun, the first step is to decide how long you want to travel. Short trips are great for those who want a taste of adventure, while longer expeditions are for the die hard explorers. Although you'll be getting back to nature in a big way, you will want to bring along one modern convenience -- your camera. There are spectacular views to be had from any point in the Grand Canyon. You'll also get to see a variety of plant and animal species on your trip through this spectacular natural landmark.
